Here’s What They Will Say…
The Cobos-Caballero-Ledesma crew are becoming pretty predictable. But then again, they are creatures of habit.
This is especially true of Theresa Caballero and Rick Ledesma. Caballero, running for County Attorney, and Ledesma, running for County Judge, are fringe candidates that are doing their best to get a little attention by doing their best to make it in the paper as often as possible.
Funny thing about that strategy, what happens when you are in the paper but you are the one being scrutinized? Ledesma doesn’t think his background or record should be scrutinized because its “private”. Yet he has no problem pointing the finger at Commissioner Veronica Escobar.
Caballero loves to create doubt and ask questions, but absolutely hates the tables being turned on her. From what I can gather about her father, former Mayor Ray Caballero, she’s a regular chip off the old block. Her dad is a smart guy and sources close to Caballero tell me he’s uber-sensitive about corruption. In their words, “obsessed with it”.
Sound familiar? Caballero the Younger is very similar.
Given a couple of newsworthy items that came up in the El Paso Times over the weekend, I thought I’d make a few predictions about what they will say.
Caballero will attempt to draw attention away from an order in a Federal Court that was extremely critical of her by focusing on the Catalina land deal and a decision in court regarding that issue. I’m betting she will draw attention to that issue by calling in to Greg Freyermuth’s Show. More than likely she’ll get her tag-team partner Stuart Leeds to do the same. Generally they call in to the program within a few minutes of one another and talk about how great the other one is.
I’m betting Caballero will also say that the story isn’t relevant or that the reporter didn’t get the story right, or its part of an agenda, etc. Hell, she may even try to turn being criticized by the Court in to a positive.
Anthony Cobos will probably end up having a lot to say after the Escobar investigation being conducted by the El Paso Sheriff’s Office. Given Caballero’s constant criticism of El Paso’s law enforcement, it wouldn’t surprise me if she jumped in along with Cobos to criticize the SO. I’m betting that if the SO finds that there is no wrong doing on the part of Escobar, you will hear Cobos and Caballeo talk about bias, associations, or factionalism.
Remember I’m writing about this because I’m betting that’s what they will do.
No complaints about the SO now, but I’ll bet they will have plenty to say if things don’t go the way they are expecting.
